Why
Most cheese graters are made of stainless steel or coated metal. The high heat and harsh detergents in dishwashers can dull the sharp edges over time, and if the grater has a non-stick coating, it may peel or degrade. Additionally, fine holes can trap food particles that are hard to remove in a dishwasher.
How to wash it
Hand wash with a brush in warm soapy water immediately after use to prevent food from drying on. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately to avoid rust.
