Why
Dishwasher detergents and high heat strip the seasoning (the non-stick polymerized oil layer) and can cause rust. The harsh environment also damages the bare iron surface.
How to wash it
Hand wash with mild soap and a soft sponge, then dry immediately. Rub with a thin layer of oil after each wash to maintain seasoning.
